Amazon has long had 30-day post-order price protection, meaning that if an item you bought were to drop in price within 30 days after it shipped, you could request a refund of the price difference. We've saved quite a bit of money this way (usually in small increments of a $1 here, $4 there, though just last week we got — okay, the in-laws got — a $75 refund on a $390 kitchen sink). I'm incredibly disappointed to see that they have now done away with this policy! (Effective yesterday, I believe.)
I imagine it's due to the proliferation of sites like Price Protectr; it used to be that virtually no one was aware of the policy, nor was it particularly easy to take advantage of it. These sites boosted not only awareness but the ease of discovering price drops and requesting the refunds, which must have increased Amazon's costs by a lot. So, I suppose I myself am partially to blame, for using Price Protectr.
Regardless, this really sucks. A pox on your house, Amazon!
