Green card!
The Husband got his Permanent Resident Card (green card) in the mail yesterday! Woo hoo! I'm glad Vicki told us, and the welcome letter said also, that it would only be a few weeks rather than months that saved us from wasting a trip to the office to get his passport stamped. So now we can finally get him on my bank account*, and he's free to leave the country (as if we can afford it! Pfft!). And, you know, it's just good to have it.
Now, if the Job Gods would also bestow us with good news, we'd be very happy indeed!
* My credit union after telling me on the phone that he would not need a green card to become a member insisted that he needed a green card to become a member. They insist this is what the Patriot Act requires, even though my research very clearly contradicts that. (My understanding is that the Patriot Act gives no specifics regarding the forms of ID a bank may accept, just that, basically, they must "verify and record information that identifies the customer". I've seen bank websites that list the forms of ID they will accept, and a green card is just one of the things a non-citizen can use for ID. We had multiple forms that the other banks will allow, but mine wouldn't have it. I got very irate, because I had been assured on the phone that we were good to go, and I had taken time off work - unpaid - to go in there, only to be sent away. I told that jerkoff manager what for! (The Husband was embarrassed. But it needed to be done!) I really want to take my business elsewhere as punishment, but I do like them in most other ways, and it would be a pain in the ass to switch. Sigh.
But! Green card, yay!

Awesome! It's about time something terrific happened to you guys.

Yay! Congratulations on the Green Card. And don't you hate when a company makes you want to go elsewhere but they offer to many perks to really do it?
